In the latest episode of Plan Sea, hosts Anna Madlener and Wil Burns discuss the evolving landscape of marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) with Rory Jacobson, Acting Division Director for Carbon Dioxide Removal at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

Rory's experience coordinating the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) set the stage for a rich conversation on DOE’s initiatives to develop mCDR as a component of its larger carbon management plan. In the episode, he stresses the significance of promoting cooperation between different sectors and across government agencies.

Specifically, this episode featured discussion of the current phase of DOE’s recently launched CDR procurement program, DOE’s role on the White House’s Fast Track Action Committee on mCDR, and the benefit of partnering with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) on the recent Memorandum of Understanding and beyond.
